Make a small, repeatable place for a hobby

A hobby does not have to become another ambitious project plan. Start with a session small enough to prepare, do and put away in the time you actually have.

A useful way through

  1. Choose one concrete activity, such as sketching an object, practising a passage or assembling a paper model. Avoid defining the session as “be creative”.
  2. Account for setup and clearing away as well as making. Place the necessary materials together if they can be stored safely.
  3. Choose a realistic repeatable slot and a fallback smaller version. Keep the first plan short enough to try without buying equipment.
  4. After a few sessions, record what made starting easier or harder. Adjust the activity or slot rather than treating a missed session as proof that the hobby is wrong for you.

Put it into practice

Three 12-minute sessions are 36 minutes in a week. If each needs 8 minutes of setup, the actual commitment is 60 minutes. Keeping a ready-to-use sketchbook and pencil together changes the practical plan.
