A useful way through
- Describe the finished image: subject, destination, crop, required detail and shooting conditions. Make a short shot list. A portrait, small object and moving performance can require different compromises; a shopping list alone does not define success.
- Inventory what you already have, including compatible lenses, supports, lighting, power, storage and software. Read the exact equipment manuals for compatibility and safe use. Identify the bottleneck against the shot requirement rather than assuming every item needs replacing.
- Arrange a representative trial where practical. Use the intended subject scale, light and output crop. Inspect the resulting files at the actual destination size. Record which limitation appeared and whether a technique, rental or equipment change would address it.
- Plan file handling before the session. Agree file formats, naming, selection, editing, delivery and a backup route. Check storage and power for the planned work. Test opening a sample on the recipient’s system so the deliverable is more than an image on the camera screen.
